This is shaping up to be an excellent technical conference. I’ve finally gotten a copy of the detailed program, and I’m going to look forward to covering this for the INSIDER. Here are some of the presentations that I have found specifically interesting.
The Cyber Threat Landscape
With the number of attacks on cyber networks growing, it is more important than ever for businesses to be aware of the threat landscape – both internal and external – and identify opportunities to collaborate with IT in order to predict, prevent, detect and respond to incidents. In this informative session, FBI Special Agent Angela Haun will share the current trends in cyber threats, best practices for mitigation, and information sharing opportunities. The presentation also provides finance leaders with a better understanding of the FBI’s national cyber efforts and the realities of law enforcement engagement.

Strategies on Automation and Cyber Security
As most of us are aware, technology in the area of Automation (Control Systems, field instrumentation & control) has evolved and continues to evolve at faster rates. The differences on how we view technology enhancements in industry versus our personal life are at times very interesting. It is common for industry to remain behind the latest and greatest technologies on the market due to the risk of reliability, security, and their potential impact on safety. Dicharry
However, although we stay slightly behind those advancements, industry continues to take advantage of the proven applications that are derived from the market to increase data availability and connectivity. It is becoming more important for us to find tools that will help manage the risk when it comes to reliability, security and safety.
PAS produces many products which allow industry to document, validate, monitor, alert, and detect which are all essential in providing manufacturing the capability to assure we stay on top of our assets’ reliability, security, and safety. We will pave the future with a continued focus on protecting our core assets.

Improving the Situation Awareness of Plant Operators
IveyPowerGraphiX™, an information display philosophy created by Southern Company, addresses the problem of information overload on the part of plant operators thereby improving operator awareness. The goal of the PowerGraphiX™ system is to increase an operator’s situational awareness and give the operator the ability to anticipate problems, make a correct diagnosis, and respond properly. Using PowerGraphiX™, operators can see operational trends and readily detect and correct system anomalies. The improved information displays and control room layout featured in PowerGraphiX™ reflect the most recent research into the human-machine interface (HMI), taken from the HP HMI Handbook and ISO 11064.

ALSTOM: Meeting Customer Needs with High Performance HMI
As a worldwide technology leader in the areas of power and transportation, Alstom continually looks to develop products with a focus on meeting customer and market needs.Ericson In the complex and evolving energy generation industry there is a clear need for improved data visualization, stepping away from traditional displays, so that power plant operators have the ability to process information in a manner that is efficient and in context. Through a targeted voice of the customer effort, Alstom determined the industry’s need to improve alarm management, ease of operation and control room operational screens. Based on these industry requirements, Alstom has partnered with PAS for development of High Performance HMI solutions.
