Nancy Bartels, Control‘s intrepid managing editor filed this story:Hey, boss!
Some days I love my job. You go to work, and it feels like playing hooky. I was working—honest! Just because I got the behind-the-scenes and in front-of-the-scenes tour of the coolest aquarium going right now (sorry about that, Shedd Aquarium) down in Atlanta doesn’t mean I’ve shed my persona as a poor, oppressed, ink-stained wretch. Oh, no. Not me.
John Hale of RCK Controls, who provided all the marine environmental control systems for the new Georgia Aquarium, took me on the grand tour. I got to trail him through the miles of piping and rooms full of systems for filtering, cleaning, and controlling the temperature, level, and quality of the water for the entire marine population of the facility, everything from coral and sea otters to whale sharks. Also got to see the creatures themselves. School field trips weren’t this cool when I was a girl.
Proof that I wasn’t just goofing off will appear in the February issue, but meanwhile, here are a couple of souvenir shots.
